James Harries Multimedia Artist

Born on the 21st April 1986, James's musical talent was first nurtured at the age of six when he began piano lessons. Two years later, James developed his interest in music by taking up a second instrument: the cornet. His flair for musical performance became increasingly apparent throughout his teenage years as he played with the Llanelli, Carmarthenshire and Three Counties brass bands as well as Carmarthenshire Wind Band. James also provided piano accompaniment for several choirs and regularly performed at his church, Llanelli's Salvation Army.

During his years at St John Lloyd Comprehensive School in Llanelli, James excelled in both academic and sporting spheres as well as continually improving his musical ability and being appointed Deputy Head Boy. It was his time at Gorseinon College, however, which secured James's musical future. As well as achieving A grades in both Music and Music Technology A-levels and being named 'Student of the Year' in the study of Physics, James succeeded in attaining his Grade VIII on the piano. In 2004, James was selected as one of only six people to study Music Technology at Cardiff's Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

During James's time at RWCMD he specialised in audio visual production including composition, video production, live performance and audio engineering. James's music has now appeared on ITV and S4C and his album, 'Constellations', has also been acclaimed by sound-designer Rob Papen as one of the best demonstrations of his own software synthesiser Albino 3.

James has developed a great talent for video production, he worked extensively in the multimedia industry whilst at University, and he gained a considerable amount of corporate work before he even graduated, including clients such as Machynys Homes, NCH, Cardiff University and Everyman Theatre.

James is also a successful photographer. Inspired by the photographic work of his uncle, Graham Harries, he has developed an extensive portfolio in a variety of photographic styles. James has photographed an array of professional people, musicians and ensembles. His photography has appeared in several newspapers and has been used by many companies and institutions.

For many years, James has been combining sonic and visual arts in a new and creative way. He now has an extensive portfolio of audiovisual work spanning area's including corporate, extreme sports, event, documentary, and art films.

James is also Media Officer for Cardiff University Snow sports Society and Expedition Assistant for the University's Duke of Edinburgh Society.

In July 2008 he graduated with a 2:1 BMus Hons Degree in Creative Music Technology from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He now works as a multimedia developer as well as continuing his freelance work.
