Aerial drone filming and photography is an exciting area allowing me to capture stunning imagery from new perspectives. I became a qualified CAA approved drone pilot in 2015 and since then I have been using drones in all sorts of productions and my footage appears regularly on the BBC, ITV and S4C.
I am based primarily in South Wales, but I often travel to filming locations right across the UK and beyond. If you’re interested in hiring me for your production, please get in touch for a free no obligation quote.
Some of the organisations I have provided drone work for:
I am a qualified UAV (drone) pilot with a CAA Permission for Commercial Operations (PFCO – 1720).
DJI Inspire 2 X5S
I operate the state of the art DJI Inspire 2 drone with the X5S camera. This exceptional drone is fast, powerful, steady in strong winds, and has an excellent broadcast quality camera capable of recording 4k resolution at 60 frames per second.
The Inspire 2 has some of the most advanced tracking functions and flight modes currently available, enabling me to get shots usually only possible with dual operators.
I also have a range of lenses available including wide angle (15mm), mid range (25mm) and telephoto (45mm).
Available formats include H264, H265, ProRes 422HQ and ProRes 4444XQ.
I work as a single operator, meaning I both fly the drone and operate the camera. I prefer this as it gives me ultimate control over the footage and photography I shoot. The DJI Inspire 2 drone I operate has some of the most advanced tracking features currently available which enables me to get shots previously only possible with a dual operator setup.
Being a single operator also means that I’m usually more affordable than dual operator setups with results that are close to what you can achieve with dual operators. Take a look at my showreel at the top of this page to see the results I can achieve.
I also have hundreds of hours of flying experience with a 100% safety record.
There are of course certain shoots that require dual operators, therefore if you require dual operators do get in touch and I can recommend some excellent dual operator crews.
As well as shooting excellent quality H264/265 footage, my drone also has the ProRes upgrade, meaning I can shoot in ProRes 422HQ and 4444XQ for more demanding workflows.
For photography I can shoot high resolution 20 mega pixel raw and jpeg stills, together with panoramic and 360 images.
I have been working in the TV and multimedia industry for over 15 years, and I was a film maker and photographer long before drones starting taking off (excuse the pun). Therefore I’d like to think that I’ve got a decent eye for good footage and photographs. I also have many TV credits with my footage being used often by broadcasters including the BBC, ITV and S4C.
Portability and viewing
I am regularly asked to film and photograph in places that are difficult to get to, therefore I have additional equipment which enables me to hike with my equipment to places off the beaten track.
I also use the ultra bright Crystal Sky monitor together with client monitors which means that both I and the client/director can view the footage with ease in realtime.
Editing and delivery
I am also an experienced video/photo editor, and I often edit the footage and photographs I shoot for clients. For shoots that require the footage/photographs to be handed over, this can either be done directly onsite, digitally or an a hard drive afterwards, or I can edit the footage down and send it across.
